42. Malandanzas del asker (Çakum Effendi)

This is one of the Ladino songs about the “askerlik” – the military service forced on the Jews of the Ottoman Empire authorities since 1908. Çakum’s version is close to Haim Effendi’s (2008, CD III, no. 18). Rare versions of this song documented in oral tradition probably emanate from these recordings.
