Saba

Author: Rabbi Mordecai Labaton. The melodic progression consists of a fixed lahan  in the final strophe, and changing lehanim in the other strophes. Each lahan consists of four musical units, corresponding to the four verses of each of the six strophes. The first strophe is sung to the original lahan of the piyyut. The second strophe is sung to the lahan of the piyyut Yah el gadol vene'edar, which corresponds to the Arabic song Ya mara efrashi aldar. The third strophe is sung to the melody of the Arabic song Ya rabb eshlon abdak which is also used for the piyyut Adonai ram hish lan avdekha. The fourth strophe is sung to the Arabic folk song Liah waliah, which is also used for the piyyut Li yah, li yah. The fifth strophe is sung to the lahan of the piyyut for bar-mitzvah, Yoma tava derabanan, which is the lahan the Arabic song Min kabal ma ansur. The sixth strophe is sung to the lahan of a modern Ladino song documented in Sephardi sources from Jerusalem, Turkey and Macedonia "Novio de Seres quero yo / que viste a la franca, / que me lleve a caminar/ la tadre y la manana", which is also used for the piyyut Ram emor letza'ari dayo.
