The image above is the title page of Goldfaden's operetta Doktor Almasada: oder Di Yuden in Palermo (Dr. Almasada, or the Jews in Palermo), published in Warsaw in 1887. Goldfaden's historical-drama is based on historical events of the 14th century C.E. The play was written in 1882, shortly after the assassination of Tsar Alexander II. This image is part of the Yiddish Drama collection at the Jewish National and University Library.
