Else Lasker-Schüler was a German-Jewish poet and playwright famous for her bohemian lifestyle in Berlin and her poetry. She was one of the few women affiliated with the Expressionist movement. Lasker-Schüler fled Nazi Germany and lived out the rest of her life in Jerusalem.
Some of Lasker-Schüler's poems were translated to Hebrew by poets such as Yehuda Amichai, Natan Zach and more. Several of them were composed and performed, such as the song 'Leyad Beer Moladeti' ('Near my native well'), performed by Ofra Haza.
In addition, musical works were composed according to Lasker-Schüler's words such as 'Ami' ('My people'): a piece for voice and piano, by Sternberg. The composer Yosef Tal also composed a piece in memory of Elsa, called 'Homage to Elsa'. This piece is a chamber scene for mezzo-soprano, narrator and ensemble. Also, many plays and literary works were written about her.
