Uri netzura (Wake, you who is besieged)
Author: Rabbi Menashe Siton. The first strophe and the last (in which there are only two verses) are sung to a fixed lahan. Strophes 2, 3, 4 and 5 are sung to various lehanim. The fixed lahan consists of four musical units corresponding to the four verses of the strophe. Melodic structure: a-b-a-b. (In the final line the structure is a-b). The second strophe is performed to a lahan of unknown origin. The third strophe is performed to the music of the Arabic song Ala balad el malhbub by the famous Egyptian composer Riyad al-Sunbati originally composed for the film Wedad and sung by Umm Kulthum (1935). The fourth strophe is sung to the lahan of the Arabic folksong Ya r rayah fein, which is also the lahan of the pizmon Yefat 'ayin libavtini. This lahan, found throughout the Middle East and the Balkans, is also well-known in Israel with the song by Haim Nahman Bialik Yesh Ii gan. The fifth strophe is sung to the lahan of the Arabic song Ya salt e-zein, by Zakariya Ahmad.
