You never know - Shlomo Carlebach

Documentary, Israel 2008, 61 min. Hebrew, Engl. subt.
The year is 1966. Alongside with Pete Seeger and Jefferson Airplane, a young rabbi takes the stage with a guitar and begins to sing. The newspapers nickname him 'The Singing Rabbi'. A brilliant prodigy at the Lakewood Orthodox Yeshiva, young Shlomo Carlebach had a promising future as a Talmusic giant. But his soul was drwan to the Lubavitcher Rebbe, who sent him to preach to the hippies of San Francisco. As his love for them crossed the boundaries of religious law, he found himself alone. Shlomo Carlebach once said in a radio interviwe that he composed over 4000 original melodies. Thirteen years ago, he passed away, penniless.
