17. ''Yevanim Niqbezu 'Alay"

The Greeks were gathered against me / in the days of the Hasmoneans;
They broke down the walls of my towers / and defiled all the oils.
But from one of the remaining flasks / a miracle was wrought far Your beloved ones.
Their men of understanding appointed these eight days/ far song and praises.

An old Pan-Hasidic niggun for the fifth verse of the hymn "Ma'oz zur yeshu'ati," sung by many Hasidic choirs when the Hanukkah candles are lit in the Rebbe's presence and at Tish meals during Hanukkah. The gradual rise in pitch and the clapping combined with the singing as the enthusiasm intensifies are characteristic features of Boyan singing.
