Ra'u vanim et gevurato (Raou Banim)

Haim Effendi

A short paragraph from the Birkat ge'ulah (in its Sephardi version) in the Sabbath Eve service depicting the crossing of The Sea of Reeds by the Israelites. In the Sephardi tradition, this paragraph is usually sung to special melodies. After singing the Hebrew version, Haim Effendi sings the text twice in Judeo-Spanish translation.

The melody is without clear beat, highly embellished and slow. In spite of its improvisational quality, the piece consists of one melody repeated three times with variants.

Vieron los hijos a su baraganía,
alabaron a su nombre
y a su reinado lo recibieron con veluntad
