Yom ha-Shabbat tov lehodot

Arrangement by Yair Harel and Niro Abekasis

Partial acrostic "Ani Mas'ud". A poem in the jazal form, with an opening rhyming quatrain followed by four-verse strophes whose last verse rhymes with the refrain. The main topic of the poem is Shabbat, its observance and its prayers. The melody covers a strophe, and the last verse of each strophe is repeated. the performance of this piyut calls to mind practices assiocated with the urban ala, such as singing of certain sections with a highly embellished version of the melody but without a clear beat, adding syllables to cover a melodic period and insiraf, an "exit" or ending, where the 4/4 meter is replaced by 6/8 in increasingly faster tempi.
