Con grande vergüenza

Bienvenida Aguado-Mushabak (Çanakkale)

This song stages a dialogue between the newly-wedded bride and her mother. At the time of the bride’s farewell from her parents, her mother offers her advice. The bride says: “With great modesty I say to you that I want to go with my husband, to serve him and honor him” and the mother responds: “Watch, my daughter and pay attention, from someone else’s son—you will make your own family. When you will see, bride, your father-in-law, [you will invite him] with a cushion in hand, saying, ‘be seated, good father.’“ Similar advice is given in reference to other important members of the groom’s family: the mother-in-law and the brothers-in-law.
