De Burgos partió ese rey (32)
This mourning song, also a romance, tells about a king receives a letter from heaven (v. 18). The king falls ill (v. 9-12) and doctors from all over Spain cannot discover the reason for his illness (v. 13-16). But the youngest doctor, called Sebastian (v. 17- 18), predicts that the king has only three hours to live (v. 21-24). The king's mother enters (v. 25-26) and prays for her son, offering to die in his place (v. 29-30), but it is too late (v. 31-34). The queen now appears (v. 35-36), with her face covered by a black veil and with a rope around her throat (v. 37-38). She is pregnant (v. 39-40): if the baby will be a boy he will be the king of Spain (v. 41-42); if a girl, she will ba the queen of Salamanca (v.43-44).
