Born in Kherson, Ukraine, immigrated to Israel in 1906. Was a member of Kibbutz Yagur where he composed the Yagur Passover Seder Service (for which he won the Engel prize), a piece combining Jewish tradition with modern musical elements. Also known for composing poems of various Hebrew poets.
