Max Gabel is credited with having written 114 plays, mostly melodramas and adaptations of Broadway successes. His first play was The Sea King, 1895, performed in New York. Later he managed Gabel's Star Theater and other New York playhouses. He wrote and produced plays for his wife, actress/singer/writer/producer jennie goldstein (1896–1960), whom he married when she was 16. These plays included Girl with a Past and Everything for Love. The couple starred together in his plays, and Gabel's productions enjoyed extended runs. He toured with his wife until they divorced in 1930 and he retired to California.
