Ethan Haimo

Ethan Haimo is a composer, theorist, and musicologist. He received his A.B. from the University of Chicago in 1972 where he studied composition with Ralph Shapey and Roger Sessions.  He received his Ph. D. in 1978 at Princeton where he studied composition with Milton Babbitt.  His compositions include works for orchestra, chamber ensembles and solo works.  His theoretical writings include many articles and books on the music of Arnold Schoenberg and Joseph Haydn.  His musicological writings include an edition of a Cimarosa opera and, with Sabine Feisst, a translation and edition of Schoenberg’s early correspondence.  Retired from teaching, he is Professor Emeritus at Bar Ilan University and lives in Raanana.
