Yaakov Huri recordings
Recordings from the Edith Gerson Kiwi Archive
This playlist features the recordings of Yaakov Huri, an Iraqi-born cantor, documented by Edith Gerson-Kiwi as part of her ethnographic work in the late 1950s. Huri's recordings form one of the largest individual repertoires in Gerson-Kiwi's archive, which aimed to systematically document the musical traditions of the Baghdadi Jewish community. The collection includes synagogue liturgy, life cycle songs, domestic rituals, and readings of sacred texts, providing valuable insight into Baghdadi Jewish heritage as preserved in Jerusalem.
