This is a love song presented as a fictional dialogue between a young shepherdess and a shepherd who approaches and attempts to court her. Using imagery drawn from nature and the animal world, the shepherdess politely tries to reject his advances. However, the shepherd cleverly counters each of her refusals. The song concludes with the shepherdess turning to her parents, declaring that she wants to abandon her role as a shepherdess and marry, like her friends.
This song, performed by Sarah Harat, was recorded in 1993 by Mira Spiegel. An earlier recording of the song, also performed by Sarah Harat, was made in 1970 by Kol Israel. This earlier recording is available on the National Library website [here].
