Racheli Galay

Racheli Galay is a cellist, educator, and researcher specializing in Jewish music and music education in Israel. She earned her doctoral degree in Cello from Northwestern University, Masters from Indiana University and a B.A. in Musicology from the University of Tel-Aviv. She is a Visiting Researcher at the Jewish Music Research Center at the Hebrew University. Some highlights include solo performances with the Zagreb and Lublin Philharmonic, the Szolnok Symphony, Waukegan Symphony and others. Galay wrote her doctoral dissertation on the life and music of cellist-composer Joachim Stutschewsky and is working on a book on Stutschewsky. Her article on Stutschewsky's Archive in Tel Aviv was published in Musica Judaica, vol. XIX. Galay presented at the 16th World Conference for Jewish Studies, the AJS Conference in a session sponsored by the Jewish Music Forum, the 44th Association of Jewish Libraries Convention, Northwestern University Musicology Colloquium, The University of Chicago, The National Library of Israel, and at the University of Tel Aviv. For her research on Joachim Stutschewsky Dr. Galay was awarded the YIVO Vladimir and Pearl Heifetz Memorial Fellowship 2012-2013, and grants from the Joachim Stutschewsky Foundation and the City of Tel Aviv. Under the title “Jewish Music Now” Dr. Galay organized a Jewish music festival in 2013, and a series of concerts in collaboration with the National Library and music students from Israeli Music Conservatories.
