Judith Cohen

Judith Cohen was born in Germany. When she has four year old,  she immigrated to Israel with her family, and lived in Tel Aviv. Cohen studied at "the seminary for music teachers" (1953-1956). After her military service, she went to Zurich, Switzerland, where she wrote her doctoral thesis, which focused on Renaissance music.

Upon her return to Israel, she began teaching at "the music teacher's seminary" and other institutions. She joined the faculty of the musicology department at Tel Aviv University when it was founded and served twice as head of the department. In the years 1987-1991, she was the head of the "Midrasha for Music" at Levinsky College, and in the years 2008-2012, she was the head of the literature, art, and music department at Safed College.

Cohen's research interests are Renaissance and early Baroque music, history and bibliography of Jewish music. She also research about the music of the Jewish-Italian composer Salomone Rossi, music and poetry in the Italian madrigal, intertextuality in music, and musical reception.
