Professor Ezra Fleischer (1928-2006), Israel Prize Laureate for Hebrew Literature (1959), was professor of Hebrew Literature at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He published extensively on early piyyut, medieval Hebrew poetry and Jewish prayers and was the leading scholar of these subjects.
