Avodat Shabbat

The work is an elaborate setting of the complete Reform Sabbath eve liturgy for tenor cantor solo, large chorus, and full symphony orchestra. It was commissioned by cantor David Putterman for New York's Park Avenue Synagogue in 1958. In 1963 it was performed in Temple Emanu-El, and received praise from Leonard Bernstein. Subsequently, Berlinski orchestrated it and it was performed in Lincoln center in 1964.
