Jewish Musical Traditions

Presents Jewish musical traditions in the form of central themes, based on cultural context. It is an English adaptation of a course in Hebrew by the Open University of Israel (Ha-moreshet ha-musikalit shel kehillot Yisrael, 4 vols., 1987-9) written by several scholars under the direction of the author. More focused on issues than on compiling data as other “from Bible to modernity” surveys of JM. Its dense prose however makes it difficult to digest for readers who are not conversant in Jewish history, liturgy, and literature.
