Set in a Galician shtetl before the First World War, this musical comedy focuses on three main characters: Getsel, a vagabond jester; Esther, a shoemaker's daughter; and Dick, a vaudville performer in a travelling circus. A parade of costume, buffoonery and music, The Jester highlights both the shoemaker's scheme to marry Esther into a prominent family in the community as well as the festival of Purim.
