Martha Schlamme

Folksinger and actress
Born in Vienna, she escaped to England in 1938 and immigrated to the US in 1948. She became a popular singer, giving over a thousand concerts. An expert in folksong, Schlamme sang in 12 languages, including Jewish folksongs in Hebrew and Yiddish.

Nehama Lifshitz

Folksinger of Hebrew and Yiddish songs

Nehama Lifshitz was born in Kaunas, Lithuania and immigrated to Israel in 1969. She was perceived as the symbol of "the Jews of silence," which were not allowed to immigrate from the U.S.S.R. to Israel in the sixties and seventies.
