The Priestly Blessing in the Ashkenazi Synagogue: Ritual and Chant

'The Purpose of this article is to survey the traditional developments of the PB [Priestly Blessing] ritual and its music in the Ashkenazi communities in both Central and Eastern Europe and to discuss the later developments in the Reform congregations of Germany and North America. In order to do this properly we must probe into the various spiritual meanings of the ritual as well as its historical, halachic and liturgical aspects, each of which has contributed its share to the complex web that created the contect within which the music of the PB has developed.'
