The JMRC Sephardic and Eastern Jewish Music Study Group

In 2007 the JMRC established the Sephardic and Eastern Jewish Music Study Group. The goal of this group is to develop an integrative approach to the study of music in Sephardic and Eastern Jewish societies. The study group researches the liturgical, paraliturgical and non religious musical cultures of these communities. Among the topics discussed in the group are: methodological aspects, problems of authenticity, modality (Maqam and other systems), changes and continuity, and more.
