Jacob Samuel Maragowsky (Zeidel Rovner)

Jacob Samuel Maragowsky, also known as 'Zeidel Rovner,' was born in Radomyshl, Ukraine. He officiated as a cantor in several eastern European cities, including Rovno (hence his nickname, 'Rovner'), always accompanied by a choir and sometimes using an orchestra as well. In 1914 he immigrated to the U.S. where he remained until his death. Maragowsky composed many works for cantor, chorus and orchestra which won him great fame. Some of his works are still performed today.
